Recent find even close to home...A 128 that appears to be in good cond. (kept inside!!)Engine turns by hand<starter is shot> I do have one fortunately. Need help with ser. no. 2050045u475900..Yr of mfg?? Any major differences between 128 and 122? Wide frame with quick deck,I like that, good rollers. This will be a long term refurbish,no panic at all other than get it running.Owner said it's been 5 yrs since...His wife didn't like it and wanted a new one so it got parked....Are the tail lenses stock?? Was there ever a rack that bolted to the hood as an extra? This has 4 holes that seem to point to that thought...In advance all help appreciated !! And no visible welds!!

122is a narrow frame and a 128 is a wide frame.
Lots of differences there from front to rear.
Late June 1973 build date
Should be NO HOLES in the hood!
Dave, I remember seeing somewhere a pic with 2 rails on the hood, like on top of a car.I assumed it was for carrying tools or some sort or a box ???Didn't know if it was after market thoughts or what. thanks for the date... Kraig, just caught your pic. I bet the neighbors loved it when the teens were running the mower....Thanks to Bob also...

Gary - nice find. You'll like the QA (Quick Attach) latch on the front, and the removable center frame cover, both of which the 122 doesn't have.

Are you certain the S/G is the starting problem? There are a couple safety switches, one for the brake pedal and one for the PTO. Brake needs to be depressed, and PTO in off position, before it will operate the S/G if the safety switches are good. Both switches have spring steel levers that engage/dis-engage the switches, and are prone to cracking or breaking off.

Harry, I pt on a s/g and did a calculated guess on wires. It rolled over nicely. With the plug out a good crisp sound was heard. So all safeties are working too. Will do fuel system cleanup, check points and should be running by next weekend....

Gary - why wait till next weekend. Tomorrows Saturday which happens to be the most productive day of the week to work on Cub Cadets :errrr:

Harry, I work on mowers 7 days or 8 a week.My intent for Sat. is to deliver at least 3.The Cub is for me to enjoy the adventure!!! I'm pushing hard to get all others done. It's almost turkey season and bluegill bedding comes right after that.....priorities,damn priorities....

Harry, your fault,I just had to work on getting 128 running today..Did you know not all s/g turn the same way? I just assumed !!After 2hrs of cranking wrong direction my little light came ,hey dummy it's going the wrong way. Next thought the sight hole on this 12 hp is on s/g side not carb side.I could use a little guidance on point setting ...found s and t ok but ???( my meter has no clips)

Gary, back last summer when I was working on getting my 107 going, I discovered the same thing the hard way! Old S/G was bad, wouldn't spin fast enough or with enough power. After cleaning it it couldn't make up it's mind which way to rotate, it was shaking back and forth.
Rather strange, but that's okay, I had a spare off a Briggs 10hp laying around. Little did I know, it was mounted the opposite direction on that engine, so once on my 107 everything spun backwards!

With a little experimenting, I found that I was able to correct the issue by swapping the good armature from the S/G that spun the wrong way into the casing of the original S/G that was no good. The result was a fast, strong S/G with possibly more power than needed, as the Briggs didn't have a compression release.

Silly deers put the the starter/generators upside down. cub cadet puts the pulley on the pto end of the engine. They turn the other way if the pulley is on the flywheel.
