The old 6-12 cub tire I had been using on my yard trailer had a major malfunction.

I am using the hubs from a farmall cub to fit the wheels.

Sunlight will eat a tire up like crazy. I bought a new trailer in 2005, and the sun cooked them pretty good in about 10 years. I put a tube in the one that had the most sunlight, because the "checking" caused the air to leak out of the sidewalls. This year I bought a new set of tires and rims for it, since I was going to use it again on the road.
I have a set of tires that see no sunlight, which were bought well before 05' on my boat trailer that is stored in my basement. These tires look just as good as they did when bought new!

Yep,

This is why the sell the tire/wheel covers you see a lot of RV’ers using. The sun will kill tires......

I always used the RV tire covers on my motor homes living in Arizona. Even with covers I had to replace tires every 5 to 6 years due to sidewall cracking. The funny thing was the inside dual tires were cracked as bad as the outside tires even though they never seen any sunlight. I doubt the covers do much good but it makes you feel like you are helping.
