Unlike Matt who did an outstanding job, I put this together in 2004 to see if it would work. Used the old control shaft. Planned on cleaning it up if so. Well, it's still on my 109 snow blowing machine as is. Works great! I see that's when I installed Dave's u-joint upgrade. No problems with that yet.

I'm planning on doing that with my 1450. Saw a video posted on YouTube and thought it was simple enough to do quick in an afternoon, making the tractor more user friendly...

Thanks guys, I have a vermeer trencher assembly on mine and it is a real pain running the hydraulics and the steering and the hydro with only two hands!

I can imagine... it's bad enough just mowing and trying to work the speed and deck height at the same time. I've actually grabbed the wrong lever and instead of lowering the deck I take off like a rocket... 🤣 🤪

I've been thinking of a foot control too. Snowblowing, tilling, even mowing, it would be nice to have. John G., you say you haven't had trouble with the driveshaft repair. I just did that, 3 operating hours ago. (CC149) Any advice on things to watch for (darn computer! question mark is dead)

LOL I did that for the first time 2 days ago on the 1450!

The drive shaft and u-joint has had zero problems. I grease it good once a year, all 3 of the cubs have it. The foot control is great for snowblowing, it leaves a hand free for the chute. Plus it allows you keep the blower loaded just right. Feed it so the Kohler is barking and it won't clog even going through wet slush. I should get around to adding it to the 1450s.

Only problem with the ujoints, is that the front one o ine is really close to the steering housing, if you get the frame in a good bind with my trencher it will hit the edge of the tube once in a great while.

Kevin, do you have 2 u-joints on it? If so, pictures?????
Ujoint on rear and ujoint on front of driveline, mine is a little different because they use a pulley off the back of the flywheel to drive the trencher unit. Will post pics in a day or two.

Should there be a double rag joint front and back on a 1650?

It depends on your serial number. The parts lookup shows three flex couplers (one in front & two in back), but the manual I have shows a s/n cutoff at 622952. Below that number, only one in the rear; that number and up uses two in the rear.

OK, my serial number is 2050670u558100. It has a ball in the rear joint. I assume it shouldn't have two rag joints in the rear.

3/4 square shaft, slpjoint on one end. Basically a pto drive and joints from small tractor or old dump truck.been on there since the early nineties.

Thanks Kevin,
Having a slip joint is the answer to my question.
