Looking for a Cub Super with a 60" mower in working condition. I'm located in north east Illinois. Thanks

Sorry guys didn't realize I put it up in the wrong section.
Thanks for moving it.

I believe the correct name for these tractors is/was "Cub Cadet Super Garden Tractor". It has been described as a Cub Cadet on steroids. I would not call it a Super Cub because it might be confused with the old IH Cub tractor.

The only Cub Cadet Super Garden built by IH was the model 982 (which did not have power steering). Cub Cadet Corp (CCC) built many different models (of which David S listed some).

The frame for a CC Super Garden was approx. 2-4" inches taller (except for the cut down area where the engine mounts) and approx. 8-10" longer than the standard Cub Cadet Garden Tractor. I believe most of them were equiped with 26x12x12 rear tires and 18x8.5x8 front tires.

I had a model 1872 that was one sweet tractor. I loved the power steering and especially the 18hp Kohler Magnum twin cylinder engine (that is one smooth running and nice sounding powerful engine). It came with a 60" fabricated deck (I believe was made by Haban), which was a real monster, and one person cannot reasonable handle moving this deck around and flipping it over (at least I couldn't by myself).

One thing that was a real concern to me. When I got the tractor the hydraulic lift was set up with "down" pressure. When I lowered the deck the hydraulics would actually drive the deck into the ground and lift the tractor, AND the frame would flex right where the deck height adjustment locking cam is on the right side of the frame. I felt certain the frame would eventually crack if I left it set up with the down pressure. Another thing I didn't like was the tires being so close to the edge of the fenders. I felt like if I installed chains they would actually rub against the fenders. To fix this I removed the rear bolts where the fenders attach to the frame and slide little spacers in (I think they were about 3/4") to hold the fenders up just a little higher. No one really new the difference (except the Correct Police).

Yup, a Cub Cadet Super Garden Tractor is like a Cub Cadet on steroids.

Here's what to look for.

REDDOUG - Did you find a buyer for your 982? I'm considering advertising my 982 which is optioned exactly the same as your was/is. Just curious how much you got for it. We basically live in the same market, I'm on the east edge of Madison.
