Hi, fellow clubbers! Having a problem with electric pto engaging and occasionally disengaging while mowing. When I turn on the pto it seems like the plate that moves to the magnets is not contacting them fully. One side of the plate seems not to be touching the magnet. Is this normal? Problem is on a model 2186.

Have you tried this? Cub Cadet FAQ

I will keep you updated. A mechanic friend suggested the battery may not be strong enough to power the magnets. Is this a possibility?

There are no magnets, the 2 little field coils turn into a electro magnets when powered. Since the pto engages and kicks out, I'm going to stick with adjusting the air gap, depending on which style PTO you have.

The pto clutch on my 2186 appears to be non adjustable. Once the front crank bolt is removed the clutch comes off and comes apart with nothing holding it together. It has flat "feeler gauge" like springs that are fixed. Perhaps shims are available for this style? 20 HP Command twin engine.

2186 should have a Kawasaki in it. Someone must have put a different engine in it at some point. Is it possible it’s not a cub cadet spec engine and has a different pto?

Edit: I’m an idiot. was thinking 2086 not 2186. Never had one of those to take apart.
