I got my 1860 as a wreck last year w. 50 in deck; now runs like a top. BUT it takes a lot of cranking to bring gas up from the under-fender tank to the engine. Parts diagram shows 2 filters: 25-050-01 and 25-050-02 in line. Anyone know if one of these has a check valve? Or where to get a check valve?

John,
There is no check valve. Your fuel pump is the problem, and will more than likely die off on ya when you least expect it. The diaphram is letting the gas flow back to the tank.
You could just shut the gas off under the tank on the right side as your setting on the tractor everytime you shut it off though.
I think just about any small engine shop could fix you up with some sort of check valve, but I dunno how that might affect the fuel pump.
