Hugh, would an incorrect gap make the clutch stop working all together?

Hi, I am having a problem with my early 1980's Cub Cadet 782. I was using the mower deck the other day when it stopped working, i checked the switch and it is still good. This has never happened before, and I have owned it for about 15 years. Could the PTO be bad, or could it be something...

So I ordered a new solenoid for my 782 for $15.99 shipped, and am hoping that is my problem. I was wondering where the brake switch is located? I could not see anything underneath that looked like, when the brake was depressed, that it pushed on a switch.

Dave, what do you mean trying the key with the jumper box? I have not yet jumped from the battery side of the solenoid to the starter yet, i will later today.

Dave, I used a portable battery jumper, and it turned over with no problem. The solenoid clicks when i turn the ignition, and has never been cleaned or removed since it was new.

So i put the battery jumper directly to the starter and it turned over, so does that mean the solenoid is bad?

I own a 782 cub cadet, when i turn it over i only get a clicking sound from the solenoid that is mounted under the seat. I think it has gotten progressively worse because before i could turn it over 10 to 15 times and it would turn over, now it wont turn over at all. Iam leaning towards the...

    Starter Bad?

I have a Cub Cadet 782 late 1970's, it only clicks when i turn the key, and if I do it enough times it will turn over. Is my starter going bad? The noise i hear is coming from the solenoid.

Thanks for all your help. I am leaning towards my fuel line being cracked, and/or i need a carb. rebuild. I will keep you posted, thanks again.

    Runs only on full choke

Thanks for the reply Jeremiah, i have never checked the float or level, could that be the cause of my problem?

    Runs only on full choke

Hi, i have an early 1970's 782 Cub Cadet, I recently tuned it up and before that it only ran with the choke all the way on, after tuning it up and adjusting the carb., it ran with the choke off, unfortunately that only lasted a few days. The fuel filter and fuel pump are good, it seems as...
