This is the area of the trunion shaft that frequently needs repair. The method that I have used is to weld the hole smaller then file it back to size with a flat file. Heat hasn't been a problem. I wrap a wet rag around where the seal is and gas weld them, TIG welding would be even better. The main thing to remember is not to deposit any more metal than you need. That way the heat and the filing time stay at a minimum. Another tip is to make the length of the slot the same as the length of the wide section of the slot in the cam follower plate.
